Fracture
Original artwork
Fracture is the second of three sculptural works exploring the transformation of discarded timber into objects with a lasting presence. Carving, scorching and staining reveal and intensify the timber’s fibres, marks and imperfections. Fire plays an active role in shaping the surface, responding to the material and making its history more visible. The contrast between finely finished oak and raw, scorched surfaces echoes timber's dual identity—as both a living material and a resource shaped by human intervention. The resulting forms evoke weathered landscapes, geological strata, and fossilised surfaces.

Our finishes are naturally robust and offer great resistance to spillages, provided they’re wiped up promptly with a damp cloth. For tougher marks, we recommend Osmo spray cleaner, and an annual application of liquid wax cleaner to keep the wood finish looking its best. We also offer a refinishing service, available by quotation, depending on the work needed, refinishing can be done on-site or in our workshop.
Rather than concealing the timber’s natural character, the fibres are exposed and celebrated through carving, scorching and staining
